Goniometers and inclinometers
Goniometers and inclinometers are protractors and measure the range of motion of certain joints in degrees. Consider the angle between the upper and lower arm (elbow), the upper and lower arm (the knee) and the wrist.
Goniometer
The goniometer consists of two arms that are placed on both moving body parts. Next, the number of degrees is determined by movement. A goniometer is placed on the moving body part only, measuring the number of degrees of the angle relative to gravity. The FS Goniometer is an affordable goniometer for accurate angle measurement.
Inclinometer
The inclinometer is placed on one moving body part. Then the patient can perform the movement and the result can be read immediately. This measurement is accurate and simple. Baseline Bubble Inclinometer is easy to use and is a commonly used inclinometer.
Difference between a goniometer and inclinometer
A goniometer measures less accurately and easily than an inclinometer. Inclinometers have numbers or are digital and are placed on the moving body part only, the goniometer is placed on both body parts, between which the angle should be measured. An inclinometer therefore works much more accurately and more conveniently, and it is also possible to use multiple inclinometers at a time.
